Network Status
Setup for Windows 95 or 98

You may need your Windows 95 or 98 disks or CD to install these components onto your computer.


1. If you do not have Dial-Up Networking installed or do not see it already installed (you can find it by double-clicking on 'My Computer'. It should appear in the box. You may have to use the scroll bar and scroll down to see it.)
Double Click on My Computer.

If you have an Icon that says Dial-Up Networking , skip to #4

You must do so now. Follow these steps carefully:

Go to the Start button and up to Control Panel.
Double click on "Add-Remove Programs."
Click on the "Windows Setup" tab.
Highlight 'Communications.'
Click on 'Details.'
Highlight 'Dial-up Networking' and select it.
Click on 'OK' until the 'Add-Remove Programs' box disappears.
Insert Windows disk or CD if required.
Restart Windows.


2. Installing Dial-Up Adapter and TCP/IP and setting up the Network Protocol

You must now install the Dial-Up Adapter and TCP/IP support to connect to the Internet via a PPP or SLIP connection. To do this:

Click the 'Start' button, go up to 'Settings' and click on 'Control Panel'
Double-click on the 'Network' icon.

From the configuration tab, click the 'Add' button.


Select 'Adapter' and then click on the 'Add' button.

The following screen appears:

From the Manufactures List, select 'Microsoft', from the Network Adapters list, select 'Dial-Up Adapter'.
Click the 'OK' button


Now, to add TCP/IP click the 'Add' button and you will see the following screen.
Highlight 'Protocol' and click on 'Add'

Now you will see the following screen. Under "Manufacturer's" pick Microsoft and under 'Network Protocol' select TCP/IP and then click on the 'OK' button.

The Networking files are now installed. You can now move to the next step.

3. In the 'Network' box, double-click on 'Dial-Up Adapter':

In the 'Dial-Up Adapter' box, click on the 'Bindings' tab:

Make sure only the 'TCP/IP' box or it may be called 'TCP/IP -> Dial-Up Adapter' is checked. If any other box is checked, uncheck it. Then click on 'OK'.

Now, under the box that says 'The following network components are installed:' (The same box that contains 'Dial-Up Adapter) double-click on 'TCP/IP' or it may be called 'TCP/IP -> Dial-Up Adapter'. This will take you to the 'IP Address' tab:

It should be set to 'Obtain an IP address automatically'.

Now click on the 'WINS Configuration' tab:

This should be set to 'Disable WINS Resolution'.

Now click on 'DNS Configuration' tab.

The 'DNS Configuration' tab should be set to 'Enable DNS'

Now click on the 'Advanced' tab.

Down at the bottom of this tab, make sure the box that states 'Set this protocol to be the default protocol.' is checked. Now click on 'OK' until you get back to the desktop or the computer asks you to restart the computer. Click 'Yes' to restart the computer. When the computer has finished restarting, move to step 4.

4. Setting up the Dialer

Open My Computer
Double click on Dial-up Networking
Double click on Make New Connection
Enter Dialer For EPI
Click on Configure
Under 'General' make sure that your modem properties are correct
Under 'Options' make sure that only 'Display Modem Status' is checked and nothing else
Click on OK
Click on Next
Enter theEPI phone number 3302279500
Click on Finish
Now lets setup some details for the new Dialer For EPI connection:

While you are still in Dial-up Networking, right-click on the Dialer For EPI connection icon. Scroll down to Properties and you should see the following screen. Remember that your modem may have a different name.

OR 330-332-2990 for Salem Area Customers

Click on Server Type and set the options as follows:

Click on TCP/IP Settings and set it to look like the following:

Click OK to close all the folders (3 Windows) until you are back out in Dial-up Networking.
Right-Click on the Dialer For EPI icon and select 'Create Shortcut', a dialog box will come up, click on 'Yes' to put shortcut on desktop. Now close the 'Dial-Up Networking' window and the 'My Computer' window.
Double-Click on the 'Shortcut to Dialer For EPI' icon that is now on your desktop. Enter your username and password and click on the 'Connect' button. Congratulations! You are now connected. To disconnect, double-click on the icon next to your clock on the lower righthand corner of your screen. It looks like 2 green blinking lights. Then click 'Disconnect'
